He has worked for both large and small companies in varied industries. He has experience in performance tuning, high transaction environments, large environments, and VLDBs. Good book for quick reference

Initially I thought this book was great. Then the author stated that if you want a more comprehensive listing on all the T-SQL functions/expressions to try SQL Server 2012 Beginning T-SQL ...so I did...and that book has just been awesome. Recipes is a solid book, it takes things one step at a time...it just seemed more like a pocket reference than a book that engages you into real learning. The lessons are too brief and don't get the reader to reach a satisfactory level of competency. In all fairness this book was a solid read with a well organized approach and it's worth having. I just think that SQL Server 2012 Beginning T-SQL is a world class introductory book...the likes of which you rarely see.
