Power of One/Tandia = top shelf!

When a friend said that "The Power of One" was one of her favorite books, I had to borrow it. Since reading it, I've bought it or recommended it to at least a dozen friends, and all of them feel the way I do about the book: it's one of the best books we've ever read!! When I finished I was sad because I had come to feel so close to the main character and storyline that I wanted more. I was ecstatic to discover that there was a sequel-- "Tandia". I have one very well worn/read copy of this book circulating in another state with friends/relatives and I may not get it back. Somehow through all of these recommendations and purchases I had never bought the book for myself, so seeing this version of the two books in one, I had to have it for my own library. I NEVER read a book twice-- there are too many good books out there to read to do this, but I wanted this book in my library because I plan to read it again and again over the years. It's that good!

In the book Cam Jansen and the Mystery of the Snowy Day Mystery Cam, Eric and Danny try to find the thieves of the three stolen computers. I enjoyed this book because I like mysteries.When Cam finds out who the thieves are I felt excited. I would give this book 4 stars because the book has almost every thing I like in a book which is (1) action,(3) two main characters, and (4) several ways to solve the mystery. If you like short book with good mysteries you'll love Cam Jansen and the Snowy Day Mystery. by Rebekah

Are you looking to read a mystery book? Then read Cam Jansen and the snowy day mystery, by David A. Adler. When Cam Jansen went to computer class three computers were missing. Some thieves stole it. At least they found two clues. They saw footprints by the window but the window was locked. How did the theieves get inside? To find out read this book.
If you like mystery books, first read Cam Jensen and the snowy day mystery. My favorite part is when she imagines how the thieves got inside and finds two clues. You will like to read it over and over again. When I first read this book I couldn't put the book down because I wanted to read a mystery book go ahead. So go find this mystery book right now!

this was one of the beat cam jansen books I have read. I love the cam jansen books they are a very good mystery series this book is great I loved it.I did not like it because it was kind of confusing but I am giving this book a 5 star rating I think grades 3,4,5,6 would love this series!

Golden role model

It's written with Mia's innocent perspective on competitive sports and life. Her role model status, team dedication, and work ethic dominate the main themes for tween and teen girls. The morals put forth are tried and true: practice makes perfect, never be selfish, and respect and treat others as you would yourself. The book is inspiring due to Mia's incredible determination to improve and succeed and, ergo, is motivational. It's an easy read, but I give it 4 stars since it could be more thought provoking regarding life balance and choices for girls. Nonetheless, she is a golden role model. Recommended.

i love this book! Mia Hamm is a great soccer player who knows what shes talking about. i recomend it to anyone who is serious about soccer and wants to learn how to improove thier game. it has pictures about the world cup in 1999 and of her as a kid. it is great for coaches, players, and pretty much anyone. it also tells about mia's life outside of soccer. hanging out with her friends, family, and teammates. overall this is a great book.

The second edition of this useful reference book, first published in 1978 (LJ 9/15/78), adds 300 new entries and brings former entries up to date for a total of 1100 performers, as well as playwrights, composers, directors, and others affiliated with the performing arts. The entries include blacks both living and dead, and for the firt time, black musical groups as well as individuals are included. Using the same format as the first edition, this lists entries alphabetically, with a classified index by field of endeavor. Film, record, television, and theater credits, as well as other known facts, are noted in a cursory fashion. Despite the limited data, this is probably the most complete reference of its type for both current and past performers.

Grade 5-7?Frustration, love, and sensitivity underscore the dynamics of family life for Fanny Swann, 12, the main character in this absorbing, well-crafted novel. Henkes has created strong and believable characters in Fanny; her artist father, Henry; and Ellen, her nurturing mother. Henry is having problems dealing with aging and doubts about his talents. When he goes off by himself rather than attend his own 60th birthday party, Fanny is angry and guilty at the same time, thinking that she is the cause of his behavior. While she loves and admires him, she also fears him and feels that he doesn't understand her. There has also been a rift between them since he gave away her incorrigibly rambunctious puppy months before. Despite his moodiness and unpredictable nature, a deep, strong love holds this family together. Fanny has an enviable relationship with her mother, who acts as a buffer between father and daughter. A new older and calmer dog is the catalyst for all of them to ultimately discuss their feelings, accept criticism, and try to change their behavior. In a time when dysfunctional families get center-stage in fiction for this age group, it is refreshing to find a novel that celebrates the family without being pedantic or unrealistic. What an amazing display of emotion...

I never really thought I would get into this book. I just nonchalantly picked it up off of the bookshelf in the library. I began to read it. I was pulled in by the very real display of emotion, and the dialog was also very realistic. The characters were described so well, I could almost see them. The story line was also something that actually does happen. Dogs do get taken away because of destructive habits. As I read the story, It felt like it was really winter outside, and I imagined myself sitting in front of a warm fireplace, listening to it crackle, and drinking hot chocolate. Just like Fanny. I read the whole book in less than a day. I couldn't disconnect myself from it. I recommend it to anyone and everyone.

This book talks about the life of a 12-year-old girl whose name is Fanny. Her farther is an artist and is very hard to live with. His business is not going too well and he gets upset easily, particularly when he is not satisfied with his work. Fanny has always loved dogs, one night when her dad was not able to show up for his 60-year-old birthday party he brought back a Labrador puppy. However, her dad needs concentration for his work, and when the puppy began breaking things and fooling around at the house, he sent the puppy away to someone. Fanny is heart broken and misdirected her anger, frustration, and emotional outrage. One night Fanny's father comes home with another dog named Dinner. But Fanny is afraid, she worries that Dinner would ruin her dad's concentration, and he would send her away too. Soon, her father began using Dinner as the main model in his painting. Fanny understood then, that her father would never send anything away that she loves.
I found this book touching in some ways. This book is very straightforward and easy to understand. It isn't a very exciting book, but it has good writings and is a worthy book to read. Though, I think the title doesn't exactly match the meaning of the story. For instance, "Her mouth was a pouty circle, and short, slitty lines served as eyes and eyelashes."
The sentences are short and simple to read. This book isn't very descriptive nor complex. The sentences are also short, but it makes perfect sense. "The petals were so dark they looked black at the innermost whorl." It is in a very good writing, especially in a drama type of book.
I enjoyed reading this book. It wasn't the story that interested me, but the moral of this story. Even though the story doesn't completely mean the same meaning as the title, there was a important lesson about this doll (Marie) Fanny owned. The moral of this story is not to show emotional outrage to anyone in your family. Fanny never trusted her father, and she hid her belongings away from him. I recommend this book to everyone.
