Bossy and the Brat

Daisy Harris hands us another winner featuring the men of Holsum College in Bossy and the Brat. Bossy and the Brat is the fifth book in the series and leads us through the trials and tribulations of Cal and Tyler. Cal used to be the RA of the dorm and as such all freshmen are off limits as potential love interests. Tyler used to be one of those freshmen but we are now in the summer after Ty's freshmen year and Cal has it bad for him, even if he does not fully want to admit it. Once Tyler notices that Cal has broken up with his hometown girlfriend and sees Cal watching him closely, Ty sets his sights on conquering Cal; or maybe Cal sets his on Tyler. The fun then begins.
Ms. Harris takes us through the emotional turmoil of Cal, from a small town where homosexuality is simply not accepted and marrying a good girl is the norm. Cal's feeling for Tyler are both wonderful and confusing as he comes to terms with not only his homosexuality, but the fact that love and relationships are a "for-ever" and not to be taken lightly. If he truly accepts himself and Tyler, can he have the happily ever after?
Ms. Harris also explores Tyler's insecurities. Tyler is known for getting around, but never in a committed relationship; always waiting for the other man to call and being available for that call. In Cal, Tyler sees security, love and a deep-seated connection, which all scare him. But, this is something that he wants and will even sacrifice people knowing they are dating to have whatever bone Cal will throw his way. Through Ms. Harris' writing, I felt Tyler's emotional state and need for love as it radiated through the pages allowing me to cheer for the boys and hoping their love could withstand any roadblocks thrown their way.
Eventually, with a little nudge from Cal's ex-girlfriend, Nicole, Cal comes to terms with his love for Tyler and allows the chips to fall where they may.
As the two men explore their relationship, both emotionally and physically, you will laugh at their antics as the Brat tries to dominate the Boss and vice versa. Who comes out on top is truly not the issue, as both men find love and acceptance in each other's arms. Daisy Harris' Men of Holsum College series is a wonderful addition to anyone's reading list and Bossy and the Brat does not disappoint.

Bossy and the Brat by Daisy Harris is a super hot friends turned lovers story. Following his breakup from his girlfriend, Cal Beaumont finally admits he is attracted to his across the hall neighbor Tyler Burke. The sex is sizzling hot between them, but Cal is reluctant to publicly acknowledge their relationship.
Tyler Burke has just finished up his freshman year, so he is young. His previous encounters have essentially been nothing more than casual hookups that he misinterpret as relationships. Tyler's feelings are easily hurt and he is very needy. Not much about his past is revealed, so we never get a clear picture as to why he is so desperate for attention. I think if I knew why he was so needy, I might have been more sympathetic to his character. Instead I found his clinginess more annoying than endearing and I could not help but wonder what Cal saw in him other than a sexual attraction.
Cal Beaumont has recently admitted to himself that he is attracted to men but he has not admitted to himself that he is gay. He cannot imagine coming out to his parents or forgoing their expectations of him. He has little sexual experience with women or men, but he assumes a dominate role with Tyler right from the beginning. He uses his previous role as Resident Advisor as an excuse to keep his distance from Tyler and later as the reason why their relationship needs to be kept hidden.
The two protagonists spend much of the story apart, communicating mainly through sexy texts and phone calls. There are misunderstandings between them due to a lack of real communication and getting to know one another. Don't get me wrong. The sexts are scorching hot and culminate in some very steamy masturbation scenes, but I thought they lacked an emotional connection.
There is a bit of a BDSM theme to Bossy and the Brat but it is fairly light. Cal assumes the dominant role and Tyler certainly enjoys being told what to do. Tyler pushes Cal's boundaries and he gladly accepts his punishment for being naughty. Daisy Harris consistently delivers sex scenes that are quite erotic and she definitely turns up the heat in Bossy and the Brat.
Bossy and the Brat is one of the sexiest stories in the Men of Holsum College series. It is a light-hearted, enjoyable read. As always, I am looking forward to the next installment of one of my all time favorite series by the very talented Daisy Harris.

3.5 but well worth the read

Now I totally am crushing on Daisy Harris, but this one just wasn't as good as her others for me, its a 3.5.
That's not to say it was bad, it just.... I guess its just that things weren't totally believable in this story.
Ok so we have Cal, the 21 year old "straight" virgin who happens to be the RA of the dorm, who also has a girlfriend from back home that he is mean to marry, but is secretly head over heels for Tyler.
Tyler, the super fun loving 18 year old who is always throwing his heart to others who treat him as nothing more than a hook up, that may be because he is a little on the needy side. Ok a lot needy.
After Cal and his girlfriend separate things move forward with him and Tyler pretty fast, especially once Tyler gets the idea in his head that maybe Cal is more than just a little interested.
Tyler drives head first into the unknown with Cal, who doesn't take long in giving into what he truly wants.
Things start out as simple flirting but moves extremely quick into some steamy.
Cal is focused on not breaking the rules of not dating a freshman due to him being the RA , well he Was the RA, so isn't ready to be public, and keeps Tyler at arms length, keeping half of the relationship via text messages.
And boy are they some sexy and down right hot messages.
Now, this is where the hard to grasp bit comes into play, Cal jumps right into light kink in the form of a little tying and a lot of Dominance, this kind of threw me, Cal is meant to be a very inexperienced virgin, who is only now coming out about being gay, well to himself and Ty. Adding the Dom element to it was just a little too much for me, especially when he wasn't a Dom with his girlfriend, in fact she comes across as the one in charge there.
One thing you can always count on at Holsum? The Sex and the teasing men, and there is no exception here.
The build up is quiet hot to say the least, and the sex... so worth the wait.
Just like the others, its more of a short story, a very easy going, sweet, sensual, funny and damn hot story with a hint of kink.
Moving on to the next in the series, Holsum, I'm here to stay :)
