It reconstructs the cities through a 3-D computer program, ArchiCAD, using Artlantis to render. Plans, sections, elevations and perspectives are presented for each of the cities. The ten cities are: Filarete - Sforzina; Albrecht DÃ¼rer - Fortified Utopia; Tommaso Campanella - The City of the Sun; Johann Valentin Andreae - Christianopolis; Joseph Michael Gandy - An Agricultural Village; Robert Owen - Villages of Unity and Cooperation; James Silk Buckingham - Victoria; Robert Pemberton - Queen Victoria Town; King Camp Gillette - Metropolis; and Bradford Peck - The World a Department Store. Each chapter considers the work in conjunction with contemporary thought, the political philosophy and the reconstruction of the city. Although these ten cities represent over 500 years of utopian and political thought, they are an interlinked thread that had been drawn from literature of the past and informed by contemporary thought and society. About the Author
Dr Tessa Morrison is a senior lecturer at the University of Newcastle, Australia. Her research is multi-disciplinary and incorporates philosophy, mathematics, and the history of architecture along with 3-D computer graphical analysis. She has continued to develop a reputation in the area of architectural history and has a sustained and long term research program with international outputs. Over the last few years she has specialised in seventeenth and eighteenth century studies in architectural history and the history of ideas, including a translation and commentary of Isaac Newton’s reconstruction manuscript on Solomon’s Temple published in Isaac Newton’s Temple of Solomon and his Reconstruction of Sacred Architecture. Her current research is on architects and cities from sixteenth to the nineteenth century that have never been built but have had significant influence through the centuries.

About the Author
Elias P. Gyftopoulos received his doctorate in electrical engineering from MIT in 1958. He is MIT's Ford Professor Emeritus of Mechanical Engineering and of Nuclear Engineering.
Gian Paolo Beretta was awarded a doctorate in engineering at MIT in 1981. A full Professor of Thermal Sciences at Brescia University, he is a frequent visiting professor at MIT.

An Intellectually Rigorous Presentation of Thermodynamics

As a teacher I am greatful to the authors, Gyftopoulos and Beretta, for providing me (and other teachers of thermodynamics ) with this novel, logically consistent and enlightening approach to thermodynamics. I use their exposition as the foundation of my teaching in both my graduate and undergraduate engineering courses in thermodynamics. I start with an expanded version of Chapter 14 of the book. This Chapter gives a concise summary of the thermodynamic concepts that constitute the basic structure of thermodynamics. Actually, the authors have a paper, found in the Proceedings ASME, Vo. 266, pp 206-217 (1993), in which they outline their presentation of the basic concepts in a sequence of 10 lectures. In that sequence, as in the book, there is a seamless flow from one concept to the other, without arbitrary statements, or non-rigorous derivations and misconceptions, as in most of the thermodynamic textbooks. For instance, unlike others who insist on talking about heat from page one, in spite of the fact that the concept of heat cannot be understood without the Second Law, Gyfropoulos and Beretta introduce heat towards the end of their exposition of basic concepts, where I believe it actually belongs. The above paper summarizes the order of introduction of concepts which I copy here:
"System (constituents and parameters); properties; state; energy(without heat and work) and energy balance; classification of states in terms of time evolution; existence of stable equilibrium states; available energy;entropy (without heat and temperature) of any state (equilibrium or not) and entropy balance; properties of stable equilibrium states; temperature in terms of energy and entropy;chemical potentials; pressure; work; heat; applications of balances"
My experience is that with this exposition of concepts the students end up with a better understanding of the structure of thermodynamics and a clear mental picture of the framework of basic concepts on which they can attach the application treatments they subsequently learn. I share the entusiasm of the two reviewers from Blacksburg about the book and its presentation of the entropy and the energy-entropy diagrams and I would like to add one more element: the treatment of the concept of reservoirs and the resulting extremely simple derivation of the Carnot Coefficient.

A Must for the Serious Student of Thermodynamics

Basing their foundations of thermodynamics on a non-statistical view
of nature, the authors provide the reader with the first complete and
totally unambiguous presentation of thermodynamics. Unlike all other
texts which present thermodynamics as a statistical theory that
applies to macroscopic systems in states of thermodynamic equilibrium
only, this novel exposition by Gyftopoulos and Beretta shows in very
sharp contrast that thermodynamics is indeed non-statistical in nature
and applies to both macroscopic and microscopic systems (including one
particle systems) either in a state of thermodynamic equilibrium or
not in a state of thermodynamic equilibrium. This is not, for example,
simply a rehash of all the books on "equilibrium" or
"classical" thermodynamics, which have proliferated and
inundated the scientific and engineering community particularly over
the last 40 years. In fact, "classical" thermodynamics or
"thermostatics" is simply a special case of the thermodynamic
foundations presented in this text, foundations which also provide the
basis for the first complete resolution of a number of paradoxes,
which have plagued the scientific community since the 19th century.
These include, for example, the paradox of Maxwell's Demon, which the
authors resolve by proving that individual molecules have private
entropies just as they have private inertial masses and private
energies. Another, the paradox between macroscopic irreversibility
and microscopic reversibility, is resolved by the authors simply,
elegantly, and completely by proving that spontaneous entropy
generation (irreversibility) is independent of the size of the system,
i.e. it applies at the macroscopic level just as much as at the
macroscopic level. Though not presented in this book, the
complementary quantum theoretical foundations of thermodynamics, which
the authors have developed, lend further credence to the generality
and strength of the theory presented in this book. Finally, as
outlined in Chapter one of this excellent text, certain chapters can
be used for one or two undergraduate level courses while others can be
used for one or two courses at the graduate level. I personally have
used the entire book for three years at the graduate level and
consider it essential for solidifying the theoretical foundations of
our graduate students as well as for clarifying and eliminating many
of the errors and misconceptions, which have resulted from the
predominant statistical treatment of thermodynamics. Without
reservation, this book is a must for the serious student of
thermodynamics.

A truly revolutionary approach.

If you are seriously interested in thermodynamics, you have to read this book. Most textbooks treat temperature and entropy as ultimately indefinable, while the definitions in this text are so elegantly logical that they will quite literally blow your mind and force you to rethink everything you have been taught on the subject. I recommend this book not only to students of thermodynamics, but also to anyone who loves science and was never satisfied with definitions of temperature or entropy. This is easily the best textbook I have ever read.

The Sun and the Moon is a standalone, HEA romance novel, which straddles the line between romance, erotica, and chick lit. It also deals with the very real issue of depression, which affected me personally. It's the first in the series, which I've called "Giving You" because all of the titles are things you would want to give someone you love, like the sun and the moon, and the stars in the sky.

About the Author
Leslie McAdam is a California girl who loves romance, Little Dude, and well-defined abs. She lives in a drafty old farmhouse on a small orange tree farm in Southern California with her husband and two small children. Leslie always encourages her kids to be themselves - even if it means letting her daughter wear leopard print from head to toe. An avid reader from a young age, she will always trade watching TV for reading a book, unless it's Top Gear. Or football. Leslie is employed by day but spends her nights writing about the men you fantasize about. She's unapologetically sarcastic and notoriously terrible at comma placement.

Always up for a laugh, Leslie tries to see humor in all things. When she's not in the writing cave you'll find her fangirling over Beck, camping with her family, or mixing up oil paints to depict her love of outdoors on canvas.

Leslie McAdam has done a fantastic job on her debut novel! She did an excellent job writing about a very difficult, dark subject matter: depression. And I just have to say that after reading this, she couldn't have picked a more perfect title for this book.

Lets start with Amelia Crowley. She has been battling depression ever since going through a traumatic event. She has just been cruising through life, numb, not feeling anything. She has written a set of rules pertaining to her sexuality and what she will and won't do based on how she was brought up by her parents. The author tackles her depression and suicidal thoughts, and us as readers are along for her ride to recovery.

In walks Sex God, Ryan Fielding! He is one hot surfer/coffee house guru. I could not get enough of him and all his sensualist ways! He has set out to help Amelia break all her rules and to allow her to just feel all the pleasure he has to offer her. Ryan was definitely an easy character to fall in love with. He is a very attractive, attentive, romantic, sensualist lover, so different from Amelia. They were complete opposites, like the sun and the moon. Will Amelia allow Ryan to help her break through all her rules and boundaries, or will she cling to them and lose their chance at love?

This story was a very good, easy read! I loved the many Harry Potter references throughout the book. You could definitely tell the author was a huge fan. The book was entirely in Amelia's POV, but I love how the author included some bonus scenes from Ryan's POV after the epilogue. I love getting able to see both sides. I can't wait to read what else Leslie McAdam has in store for us later on.

Absolutely fantastic debut by Leslie McAdam!!!

Where to start with this absolutely fantastic book? Fantastic cover? Check. Realistic heroine? Check. Amazing hero? Check. Romance? Check. Life lessons? Check.

Since I've already listed the things I loved about this book, I'm going to go more in depth about them.

First of all, the cover. I think I can safely say that it needs no explanation. It is simply gorgeous. It is eye catching and you just want to stare at it all day. Plus it also piques your interest enough to stop ogling it and actually read the book. So...yeah. He he :).

Now...let's talk about Amelia. While I have not experienced anything remotely close to what she has, I could still empathize with her. She is a remarkable lady who exemplifies what it means to be strong: getting back up when life knocks you down. It doesn't matter how long you're down...so long as you eventually get up. And this IS Amelia. I LOVED reading about her journey and how she came to love herself. I love that she didn't try to fix herself (when she obviously couldn't) but sought help - which is another characteristic of a strong person. Her journey was filled with ups and downs, but she always came out swinging. Another thing I LOVED about her was that she owned up to her faults - yet another reason why she's an amazing and strong heroine. Perhaps, what I LOVED best about her (shallow, I know) was the fact that we had similar thought and speech processes/patterns. I don’t think I’ve come across this in books (at least not recently) and was very happy to have this.

Now...let's talk about Ryan. To sum him up in a nutshell...he's just a regular good guy who works hard, but also play hard. And by that I mean that he has a healthy work-life balance. He was a perfect complement to Amelia. I LOVED that he gave her space to be. He didn't try to “fix” her - even if he was tempted. I LOVED that he listened to her as well as challenged her. He was simply a great guy. He's the kind of guy you'd have no qualms bringing to your family or showing off to your friends. There was a chapter (won't tell you which but once you read it, you'll know) that just solidified him as a perfect guy/hero in my mind. After that chapter, he could do no wrong in my eyes. The way he was able to be there for Amelia with no judgement or fix-it-mentality...talk about swoon worthy!

As for the romance, I loved that it was just your regular boy-meets-girl kind of romance. No over the top and unrealistic gestures. Just your regular kind with misconceptions and arguments and reconciliations and, of course, my favorite - the HEA :).

Now, as for the life lesson, here it is: NEVER BE AFRAID TO SEEK HELP FOR ISSUES. It is NOT a sign of weakness - but one of strength. The ability and courage to admit that you can't do something and need someone else to help carry your load is one of the characteristics of great people.

I truly enjoyed this book and getting to the end and reading the author’s note really solidified the book for me in my mind. I greatly admire her for writing something that was clearly very personal and I hope that those reading the book will walk away with hope in their hearts knowing that things can AND WILL get better for them. You’ve just got to keep pushing and pushing and pushing and pushing.

Thanks for this book Leslie. I’m definitely looking forward to more from you…and oh, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention in this review that I LOVED our mention of Little Dude. Twice. Eep! He he. Okay. I’m done :)

Get your hands on this sexy surfing Sun God!!
Accio-Amazing!! I really got into this story! I loved how it felt like I was reading a deeply personal secret diary, or maybe even as if Amelia was speaking right to me, like we are just a couple of BFFs dishing on our sex lives. Really sweet! Amelia is warm, quirky and funny while being a bit of a dorky train wreck...slowly but surely winning her daily battles with her heartbreaking depression. I loved how she was a controlled professional on the outside and a beautiful mess on the inside...plus all the Harry Potter shout-outs was really awesome! I love how the "mischief was managed" by Ryan and her "magic wand" *wink* Accio-orgasm! Just Adorable! So many rules, so many issues, and so many things holding her back from being her true happy self. This story oozes romance, steamy passion and sweet sensuality on every page...lots and lots of Amelia's no-go sex rules must be broken and Ryan is just the sexpert surfer to be breaking her dark dry spell with his own special brand of magical sensual healing...the sin-sational, ab-tastic Adonis is the hot Sun God to Amelia's cool moon goddess that keeps their world spinning with wild passion...Ryan is Amelia's true north, guiding her through the stormy seas of her depression, to cross her into a bright, sunny, and love-filled new life...Accio-HeartMelting! I will definately go back to read this again, Ryan is just too yummy not to read over and over...and what a spanking-hot love-fest sweet ending too! So great!

The piano part for Suzuki Viola book 1 & 2

I'm the teacher, so I'm thrilled that the accompaniment for both books is in one volume. For what it's worth, I don't believe in the Suzuki method as proscribed here in the United States, because we don't have the disciplined Japanese mothers who are willing to create a daily practice schedule sans cellphone to work with their kid. It is a nice series of progressively more difficult pieces with accompaniment, and I use it as adjuncts to Simply Strings, Hohmann, and Barbara Barber.

Let me start by saying that I have not yet read this book but am quite eagerly anticipating its arrival. Until today I had no idea who Caroline McHugh was. That is, until I stumbled across her TEDx soliloquy on You Tube on "The Art of Being Yourself". If you haven't seen it, go there NOW and watch it ! She speaks beautifully with such a heart felt eloquence that I was immediately moved to find out more about her as a person. Mind you that at this point I still had no idea she had written a book. So, in finding a podcast that somebody else had uploaded, I eagerly clicked and listened as Caroline's story unfolded. With her perspective regarding the contrast of Pride and Shame and itheir usefulness as a tool for development, I realized that this woman has a gift for identifying the irreducible complexities of being true to yourself and using them to bolster and celebrate humanity without losing either individuality or personal integrity. She speaks simply and honestly and I look forward to reading Never Not A Lovely Moon in order to write a more detailed review extolling the simple truths this talented Woman has penned. If you take nothing from this "review" then please remember this quote of hers "The Privelage of a Lifetime is Being Who You Are. It is your Super Power. To Be Different From . . . Not Better Than."
Update . . . . I have now read this book and still stand by my by my original thoughts regarding why this is such an important piece for anyone who is interested discovering the courage to find in themselves and celebrate their individuality or helping lift someone up who may not have the strength to find it on their own will enjoy this collection of thought provoking vignettes. This is is not a book that is read from cover to cover full of dry excercises with lessons to be learned, memorized and tested. - or even a book written from the common perspective of "I AM-type self affirmations". Rather, it is a book that leads you to ask yourself "who am I and why" It is a book that lets the reader discover their own personal resources for developing strength through humility and self acceptance.
Sine reading, I have bought and given a couple of copies of this book, including my own copy, to others who need to realize the power inside themselves is an amazing gift the world needs to witness. And while, Caroline McHugh is a self described feminist, the book is not written from this viewpoint and therefore does not alienate any type of reader. The book is, at the very least, written beautifully and published with exacting quality of the highest standards. And, with that said, I give the book 5 stars for its artistry on so many levels; however, the book was delivered with a BIG dent in the cover marring its well designed cover. So, Amazon takes the hit for the single star knock. And YES I am going to say it . . . Don't judge a book by its cover . . . Just buy it and Enjoy your journey then share it with someone who needs it.

I received a free copy of this book for review in PDF format.

I cannot confirm if this book is indeed by "Doland J. Trump" however, I can say the ideas within were well-argued and interesting. If anything, for me it was a way to see into one perspective on the issues with America, and while I may not agree with everything within the pages, I do think it contained information worth debate and consideration. This was a great summary of one side of the issues, as promised, and I would love to see what the other side has to say as well. I think it helps to read this with an open mind and with the intention of wanting to learn more about how people think and asses the current state of our country.

I like that this is a summary of Trump's new book. I just didn't want to read through a lot of the wordiness that can sometimes go into books like this; this summary provided key points from his book, and adds its own nice touch with a little Author/Reader interaction via the @SummaryReads User id from Twitter. I didn't send any tweets because I have never used twitter and don't plan to either.

Interest – Time = Summary Reads

Summary & Highlights edition of ‘Crippled America’ written by Donald Trump and prepared by Summary Reads was a chance for me to read at least summary of this book – probably I would not read other way.

Though so far I had chance to read several Instaread summary books, this summary edition is quite different – instead overall Summary, Analysis and Style chapters that discuss book in general, Summary Reads goes chapter by chapter taking out the major ideas, conclusions or questions. Also on the end of each chapter there is “Sizzle or Steak” part in which authors listed the notable quotes from each chapter.

Given the fact I did not read the original book and cannot compare these two, on the other hand it certainly manages providing a good insight to the key points and ideas of Trump’s book. I am sure it could be also recommended read to those that had previously read his book in order to have emphasized all the details that one may overlooked previously.

There are lot of people who spend their free time on reading, having enough will and patience to go through the literary works hundreds of pages long. In same time, there are many people, probably much more, that doesn’t have enough time for reading or will to spend lot of time in company of a book. Those people can be happy because of the summarized books editions that will enable them to enjoy and become familiar with the known literary pieces.

As I wrote for some other summarized books, I’m more than sure many people after reading this nicely made summary will decide to read the actual full book version, intrigued by the content; for others, either if they don’t plan to read it or already had read it, this summarized edition will be an excellent reminder or reference.

Though I’m not the type of person targeted for summary kind of books, it makes me very happy to share pleasant experience of this booklet reading - and if you don’t have enough time or chance to read full book version, this Summary Reads edition is the closest you can get to the original Donald Trump work.

My daughter (9 years old) has been on an emotional rollercoaster the last couple of months. I have talked with her, but what do moms know? My sister recommended this book, and when my daughter read it she began to feel better and more 'normal'. We read the book out loud so that we could discuss things together. It really helped her open up and express her feelings more freely with me. (Plus she figured out that mom might know a thing to two after all...)

Provides good insights into emotions, but consider pre-reading it to see if it's suitable for your child.

After reading "The Care & Keeping of You 1: The Body Book for Younger Girls" with my 9-year-old daughter, I had really high hopes for this book. It was good, but I'm afraid it wasn't everything that I had hoped for.

It's worth noting that this book briefly mentions PMS, so it's probably best read after a book like "The Care & Keeping of You 1: The Body Book for Younger Girls", which introduces the concept of menstruation.

On the plus side, the book helps to normalize the many emotions a growing girl might be feeling. I like that it is explicit about how your emotions will affect your behavior, and your behavior will affect how other people react to you. You need to make sure you are exhibiting the actual emotions you feel; if you just act angry, other people - and yourself - won't understand or address the actual emotions you may be feeling, which may be embarrassment, disappointment, or shame.

The book has several chapters talking about emotions in general. Specific emotions are addressed in the following sections:

I'm Scared
I Feel Anxious
I'm So Jealous
I've Been Disrespected
I'm Angry
I'm Lonely
I'm Really Sad
I'm Grieving
I Don't Feel Safe

Much of the book is formatted like an advice column, with questions outlining particular scenarios and answers providing specific tips and strategies. In many ways, the Q & A format was a good thing, because it made a lot of the emotions seem relatable. There were common scenarios like, "I'm scared to sleep alone at night," "I'm jealous that my sister is in my cousin's wedding, but I'm not," and "My parents are divorced, and every time I stay with one of them, I miss the other one." On the other hand, however, I'm a bit concerned that some of the scenarios might actually introduce fears that my daughter never considered before. For example, in the "I Don't Feel Safe" chapter, there were scenarios like, "I worry about school shootings," and "My house burned down last month, and I'm afraid our new house will burn down, too."

Along the same lines, I'm afraid the book might introduce some additional concepts that maybe my child isn't ready for. In the "I'm Really Sad" chapter, there is a section listing "Signs of Depression", and one of them is "think[ing] a lot about death or suicide". It does not define suicide, and I'm not even sure if my daughter knows what "suicide" is, but if she doesn't, I'm not sure if this is the best way to introduce it. Maybe it is, because it's safely confined in a book about emotions? I don't know. I need to think about it some more while I decide whether or not to have my daughter read this book.

It might also be helpful for a parent previewing this book for a child to know that this book does mention the idea of "seeking professional help," going on to explain what therapists, psychologists, and psychiatrists do.

Mostly, I'm disappointed that, despite touching upon embarrassment early in the book, there is no chapter titled, "I Feel Embarrassed." After anger, I feel like my daughter is most affected by unnecessary feelings of embarrassment.

Also, in the "I've Been Disrespected" chapter - which is basically about being bullied - I don't think the answers are entirely realistic. Of course it advocates using words to solve the problem, but it suggests saying things like, "I'd like to find a way for us to get along." I'm sorry, I just think that in the real world, if kids used language like that with a bully, it would be met with laughter and eye-rolling. I am all for having children work out their own problems, however, when it comes to bullying, I don't think this section emphasized enough the importance of letting the teacher know that bullying is occurring among classmates.

A Must For The Emotional & The Pragmatic

My 8-year-old daughter read this immediately... then used it's suggestions by the next day. This, from a very dramatic, cry at the drop of one negative word or look from someone type of girl. I am very pragmatic, so I had no idea how to help her, but thanks to this life-saving book she's taking care of it all by herself. Here' the kicker: She still comes to me and shares her emotions, but she's telling me how she's taking care of the problem. Yippee! I want her to include me in her life, not hide her feelings and cause a rift between us, and I'm also learning the techniques in the book for when the Universe converges on me from several angles and I'm feeling emotional and could use some sage advice on how best to handle it.

By the way, I've bought almost every single American Girl book and all are brilliant and well-loved by my daughter (even the Body Book). I've learned a lot myself. For her Fall birthday we are getting her a subscription to the magazine.

UPDATE: We got my daughter the subscription to the periodical and she devours it. Lots of fantastic tid-bits and more on how to handle emotions.
